About This Journal
Athena Undergraduate Research and Literary Journal is housed in the TRIO-Opportunity Scholars Program (TRIO-OSP) and the Institute for African American Research (IAAR) at the University of South Carolina-Columbia. Athena is a peer-reviewed journal founded in TRIO-OSP in 2017 and was originally produced to house high quality scholarly work by first-generation low-income college students in the TRIO-OSP at the University of South Carolina.
The Journal still prioritizes the works produced by first generation college students but is now open to submissions from students in Student Support Services and Ronald E. McNair Scholars Programs across colleges and universities throughout the United States and territories.
The Journal publishes argumentative research essays, short stories, poetry, creative artworks, and photo narratives.
