Aims & Scope

The Caroliniana Undergraduate Research Journal is a peer-reviewed, student-led academic journal dedicated to showcasing the breadth of undergraduate research and creative scholarship at the University of South Carolina. Our mission is to provide a professional platform for students to publish high-quality work, engage in interdisciplinary dialogue, and develop critical skills in scholarly communication and peer review.

We aim to:

  • Highlight original undergraduate research across a wide range of disciplines, including the sciences, social sciences, humanities, arts, and professional fields.
  • Foster a culture of inquiry, academic rigor, and collaboration among student researchers.
  • Promote inclusivity, innovation, and accessibility in undergraduate scholarship.

What We Publish

We welcome submissions from currently enrolled undergraduate students that demonstrate intellectual curiosity, methodological soundness, and a clear contribution to the field. We consider the following types of work:

  • Original Research Articles – Empirical studies, experimental reports, or theoretical analyses.
  • Literature Reviews – Syntheses of scholarly literature that offer new insights or critical perspectives on a given topic.

Our Audience

Our primary audience includes undergraduate researchers, faculty mentors, and members of the broader academic community both within and beyond the University of South Carolina.

Review Process

All submissions are reviewed by trained undergraduate peer reviewers under the guidance of an editorial board and faculty advisors. We are committed to a double-blind review process to ensure fairness, transparency, and academic integrity.
