The Caroliniana Undergraduate Research Journal

The Caroliniana Undergraduate Research Journal (CURJ) is the University of South Carolina’s student-led, peer-reviewed undergraduate research journal. CURJ provides a publication forum for undergraduate students across the USC system to showcase original research and scholarly work from all academic disciplines in article format.

Quick Facts

  • Student-run, peer-reviewed undergraduate journal
  • Four subsections: STEM, Humanities, Social Science, Interdisciplinary
  • Hosted in partnership with the University Libraries
  • Submissions accepted from all USC campuses and majors

Our Name and Mission

The journal is named after the South Caroliniana Library, the first free-standing academic library in the nation. Founded in 1840, the library was dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge and served as the University’s college library for over a century before becoming a special collections library.

In honoring that legacy, CURJ seeks to cultivate a space where undergraduate students contribute to the broader academic community through research, publication, and intellectual engagement.

Submission Snapshot

We accept full-length articles and scholarly commentaries. Submissions undergo anonymous peer review by undergraduate reviewers with faculty oversight. Typical decision timelines are noted in the full guidelines linked below.
