Abstract

Screencasting has changed the way students at universities are being taught online courses in their curriculums. Finance and Accounting professors are now increasing the effectiveness of student learning outcomes by recording Excel based technical content in the form of screencasts and making them available as needed. Their use amplifies the ability of the instructor to supplement traditional lecture with interactive learning materials that change the role of the student from a passive learner to an active participant in the learning process.

This study looks at students’ satisfaction of using screencasting as a tool to achieve learning outcomes as it relates to their perceptions, faculty instructions and interactions, and the student’s perceived excel skills. This study also looks at class duration as a moderator to increasing the effectiveness of student satisfaction outcomes.

This study was conducted with Lander University students using a 7-point Likert scale survey method and structural-equation modeling for analysis. Emphasis on improving student-faculty interactions and instructions should improve the students’ satisfaction of learning outcomes in a course with screencasting.
