Abstract

Marketing Research Tutoring Center

Spartanburg Methodist College is interesting in determining the perceived effectiveness of their tutoring center from both the students and faculty perspectives. There is a focus on ude the integration of drop-in tutoring, commuter culture and involvement, invested time results, students with time conflicts, and Intelligent Tutoring Systems.

Altogether, these subjects represent attributing factors that can help better understand the research question: Are there any issues that exist with our tutoring center that need to be addressed to increase attendance? For instance, with topics such as drop-in tutoring it was stated that attendance rates were increased and maintained when students visited the tutoring center ten or more times. In another instance, when it came to topics such as online tutoring the student response was largely positive, with some students going as far as stating that their confidence was boosted because of it.

Notably, another important aspect to consider is the culture surrounding commuter students is the time they might be available to utilize on campus resources, such as the tutoring lab. Therefore, it was inferred that having more expansive hours for the students will benefit commuters who cannot attend during regular hours due to classes or job conflicts.

Considering that tuition has been gradually rising across the country, many students, even with some financial aid, have additional costs to cover. As a result, students often work while attending college. However, although this can prove financially beneficial, students reportedly often experience burn out since their jobs conflict with their ability to do schoolwork.

Lastly, when it comes to Intelligent Tutoring Systems, otherwise known as ITS, these can help provide students with clear and concise feedback through an automated system that detects the student's weak points. As a result, this can prove to be a more efficient and effective resource that some students might prefer to traditional online or face-to-face tutoring.
