Abstract

Provides the first full text of Carlyle's letter on 24 March 1834 from Craigenputtoch in Scotland to a friend in London who was house-hunting for him, asking questions about the "housekin" she had found for the Carlyles in Kensington, describing what he needed in a house, and expressing his forebodings about the move. They missed getting that house, but the same friend helped them find their house in Chelsea after they had moved.
