Abstract
In an effort to deduce the current perspective of health professionals and health associations on electronic cigarettes, this project reviews position statements and policy guidelines, as well as studies regarding physician practices and knowledge, and primary data collected from focus groups. This data is analyzed in regard to beliefs on the risks and benefits of using electronic cigarettes as harm reduction or cessation tools. The multi-pronged approach attempts to clearly demonstrate the atmosphere of the healthcare community regarding electronic cigarettes.
