Abstract
The research included is about the human development aspect of parenting. It specifically uses research from Diana Baumrind's four core Parenting styles. The research also comes from a previously taken Human Development class. The research was then used to create a mock website for a high school senior project class. Where it was required to create a product. A second requirement for the senior project class was a portfolio that described and showcased all the research and effort put into the project. The process was documented using a time log and a portfolio including annotated bibliographies and Mentor evaluations to verify the information was correct and researched. During the completion of the project and research, a high school mentor and a psychology mentor were involved in the process, but all work in self-research. The product is a mock website called BetterParents that breaks down Baumrind's Parenting styles in a way that is easy to understand. The website broke down what the parenting styles look like, as well as what expectations for each style would be. Throughout the website, videos were added to provide further context. The youtube videos are from other therapists, psychologists, or universities explaining and modeling the behaviors of each parenting style. The website also includes a breakdown and explanation of gentle parenting and a neutral discussion of spanking. The website is not pushing towards a certain parenting style but rather presenting information and allowing parents and caregivers to come up with their own conclusions. The project will be graded and held to an academic standard as it is worked on. The project will be graded on effort, completion, and accuracy. The project had to be approved by a committee and must adhere to the proposal.
