Abstract

Digital Storytelling is a framework to combine digital media tools with traditional narrative methods. Media creation in multiple formats is a vital skill for the twenty-first century. Using multiple modes to tell a story allows the narrator to consider various perspectives and address audience expectations in a variety of ways. Blending well-crafted stories with the gift of voice, visual images and music creates dimension beyond the written word, allowing students to extend expression and develop depth of detail and emotion. Digital formats focus on the lived experience of the storyteller and leave a lasting impression on viewers. In this session, the presenter will share her experience facilitating Composition I courses, guiding students to compose oral histories and personal narratives in multiple formats, culminating in digital stories to be shared within the classroom community and beyond.
