Abstract
Describes and illustrates the autograph manuscript of the song "Afton Braes" ("Flow gently, sweet Afton"), by the Scottish poet Robert Burns (1759-1796), recently acquired by the G. Ross Roy Collection, University of South Carolina Libraries; gives a collation of variants against the other major sources; examines the paper's watermark and excise stamping; and explores both the provenance of the manuscript itself and its significance for the University of South Carolina.
