Coleman Karesh Course Notes

Coleman Karesh was born in Newburg, New York in 1903, the son of Rabbi David Karesh and Lena Mishkoff Karesh. He graduated from the University of South Carolina with an A.B. degree in 1923 and an LL.B. degree in 1925. He practiced law in Columbia for twelve years with Senator James H. Hammond. In 1937 Karesh joined the University of South Carolina School of Law faculty. He taught until his retirement in 1972. He was the first recipient of the Russell Award for Distinguished Teaching in 1957. Upon his retirement, the library at the University of South Carolina School of Law was named the Coleman Karesh Law Library. When the School of Law moved into its current location at 1525 Senate Street, the Reading Room was named the Coleman Karesh Reading Room.

Generations of South Carolina lawyers used his course notes and sought his counsel in their law practices. These course notes cover all of the courses for which he was known as the expert to students and practitioners across the state: Agency, Contracts, Mortgages, Partnership, Suretyship, Trusts, and Wills.
