Abstract
Late Summer Weather portrays Northern Californians and Southerners who are forced to deal with failed careers, misguided artistic pursuits and awkward attempts at romance. Set against the backdrop of California's economic decline, the story takes place in Sacramento's vibrant and somewhat claustrophobic Midtown district. The story explores how changes in California have affected teachers, temp workers, a rock band, painters, writers, and two brothers who are trying to keep their deceased father's business afloat. While the characters' efforts as artists often serve as comic relief, ultimately, the story seeks to understand how people assess their lives and re-prioritize what matters most to them in difficult circumstances.
