Abstract
The purpose of this study is to show the formal relationship between Rebecca Clarke's Sonata for Viola and Piano, and William Walton's Concerto for Viola and Orchestra. Chapter 1 in this document contains historical background information on Clarke, Walton, and both of their viola works. Chapter 2 is a full analysis and comparison of Clarke's viola sonata with Walton's viola concerto. Chapter 3 discusses advanced viola technique in both viola works, followed by a conclusion in Chapter 4.
