Abstract
Surveys the career of the American composer Serge Hovey (1920-1989), focusing on his engagement with Scottish song, in his symphony A Robert Burns Rhapsody (1959) and his major project to research and edit for performance the original airs to the songs Burns wrote and collected. Briefly describes the Serge Hovey archive now at the University of South Carolina. Revised from the article first published in Burns Chronicle (Spring 2012): 4-5.
