The influence of educational programming on the moral development of fraternity and sorority new members
Abstract
This study investigated the influence of educational programs on the moral development of fraternity and sorority new members at a large public research institution located in the Southeast of the United States. Through use of the Defining Issues Test, Version 2 (DIT-2) under the pre-test/post-test method as well as collection of qualitative data, the moral development of fraternity and sorority new members that participated in an eight-week educational program was analyzed. Findings revealed no significant change in moral development across the sample after completion of the educational program. Further, there was no statistical significance between groups based on gender. Based on the findings, several implications are offered for the development of educational programs focused on enhancing moral reasoning in fraternity and sorority members.
